ITEM#-016: Acoustic Lepidoptera

Stabilization Status: DUBIUS (Unpredictable / Insufficiently Understood)
Security Clearance: LEVEL 2 / BIOLOGICAL CONTAINMENT ACCESS
Facility Placement: Outpost-4-Gamma (Subterranean Cave Grid)

Stabilization Criteria

ITEM#-016 cannot be safely housed within standard facility glass or acrylic enclosures, as the swarm's aggressive flight mechanics rapidly compromise and destroy synthetic barriers. Instead, the entire collective colony is permanently contained within Outpost-4-Gamma, a subterranean limestone cave network located approximately 1.4 kilometers north of the main facility perimeter.

The natural mouth of the cave system has been structurally sealed with a multi-layered, reinforced steel blast door assembly heavily lined with sound-muffling acoustic baffling. Because active specimens possess an absolute biological aversion to external light structures and surface air currents, the colony will actively retreat into the deep sub-chambers of the cave if a doorway breach occurs, rendering external tracking nets unnecessary. No individual is permitted to strike the cave walls or create high-decibel acoustic disruptions within the quadrant.

Description

ITEM#-016 (Acoustic Lepidoptera): A bio-anomalous insect hybrid possessing the physical features of a periodical cicada combined with the large wing structure of a monarch butterfly. While individual specimens possess an organic biochemistry, their bodies are unusually dense. Their wings are completely flesh-based but razor-thin, tapering down to a microscopic thickness capable of delivering deep, precise lacerations through standard fabric uniforms and human tissue upon physical contact during high-speed flight.

The primary threat of ITEM#-016 resides in its acoustic behavior. When agitated, or when a single specimen is crushed or damaged, the colony emits a collective ultra-high-frequency distress drone that directly targets the human auditory nerve. At a volume exceeding 90 decibels, this acoustic emission functions as a gestalt sonar signature, causing immediate spatial disorientation, intense nausea, and localized auditory hemorrhaging to nearby unprotected personnel before the swarm aggressively tracks and descends on the source of the noise.

Ocular and tracking diagnostics confirm that ITEM#-016 exhibits extreme subterranean spatial dependency. Individual specimens will entirely refuse to cross the physical threshold of the cave mouth into baseline open air or surface solar arrays. Even during active defensive swarm swops, the collective mass will halt completely at the established boundary line of Outpost-4-Gamma, permanently remaining hidden deep within the cave network.
